Opportunity solution tree
When we discovered the Opportunity Solution Tree framework by Teresa Torres, it completely changed our approach.
We work with various founders and product teams. jumping to solutions.
We kept seeing in our work with founders, product teams, and CEOs. Everyone loves jumping straight to solutions. The shiny new feature. The fancy dashboard. The revolutionary UI.
But solutions without well-defined problems are just expensive guesses.
A while ago we worked with a client that was stuck in solutions mode and didn’t know how to. When we discovered the Opportunity Solution Tree framework by Teresa Torres, it completely changed our approach. Here's the design process at Hello Robo, we developed based on this framework:
🔍 Identify core problems through analytics and customer interviews.
Good Example: I can’t find the products I may be interested in.
Bad example: The interface is busy and not intuitive.
💡 Generate multiple solution ideas for each problem.
💡 Vote collectively Narrow down to 2-3 most promising ideas. Impact/Effort matrix should help you.
🏃 Create quick prototypes
✅ Test and validate
🎯 Invest in what works
This framework brings the entire team on board. Because it’s not about opinions anymore.
Without it, some teams find it hard to come to a unified decision about solutions for specific problems. But now the whole team can collectively agree on the nature of the problem, what options are available and which one will be the best.
This way teams can focus on what matters: solving users’ real problems in the most efficient way.
